Combat Workshop with Peter Berube, Produced by cARTel

cARTel will be bringing to you a three day, fast paced, action hero experience with our new stage combat and stunts workshop. Lead by cARTel ensemble member Peter Berube, you will learn the thrilling techniques and art form behind safely executing staged violence. On top of being a great work out, this work shop will increase your abilities as an actor to move, and fully embody the characters you are playing. In the first two classes you will be learning basic maneuvers as well as training with some simple choreography. The last class will be about you studying the art of choreography through the examination of a scene and culminating with the creation of your own, original fight scene.

Peter Berube is a fight choreographer and member of the Society of American Fight Directors. Peter has received rave reviews for his choreography in dozens of fights for both stage and screen. For the past 8 years Peter has been teaching combat workshops to all ages and skill levels.

First Class, Feb 5th (11am-1pm): Basic Combat

Students will be learning things like punches, slaps, wall slams, choke lifts, contact hits, and other basic moves.

Second Class Feb, 12th (11am-1pm): Advanced Combat and simple acrobatics

This class will involve rolls, falls, dive rolls, throws, and more visually impressive maneuvers.

Third Class Feb, 19th (11am-1pm): Choreography, story, and character

This class the students will be the choreographers and create their own fight by learning the science of choreography. This class is meant to emphasize the performance through the analysis of character, environment, and story. They will learn how to create from the characters perspective and use combat as a means to tell new layers of the story. They will also play between the genres of comedic and dramatic fights.

All classes will last from 11am-1pm, and will take place at the The Hayworth Theater, at 2311 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles, California. The class will cap at 20 people.

Entire three day workshop is only $40!
