This July, cARTel: Collaborative Arts L.A and El Cid presented the 3rd Session of Sound/Stage, a new series that sheds a modern light on entertainment as it once was.
Sound/Stage is a live recording of an original one-act radio play by some of L.A.’s most exciting and captivating writers paired with brilliant voice artists, actors and musicians to create a truly special, collaborative experience. Mixing old Hollywood glamour with new technology, we strive to stretch our audiences’ imaginations and allow them to revel in repurposing the past. In addition to the performance, the night includes a lively cocktail hour with special musical guests on the garden patio, and time afterwards to mix and mingle with LA's finest.
The latest installment of Sound/Stage came to life on July 25, 2012 at the historic El Cid (which will serve signature cocktails and a specially created tapas menu), featuring the new play "The Showdown." Kate wants nothing more than to confront the man who's done her wrong. Her boss, her mother, her best friend, and a psychotic cat stand in the way. But despite the obstacles, and with a healthy dose of advice from a trusted sibling, Kate ultimately decides to seek her own slightly awkward version of justice.
"The Showdown" is written by cARTel ensemble members Lauren Smerkanich and directed by Sean Lewellyn, the team behind last year's sold out Living Room Tour, Amongst the Trees. Starring Eric Carlson, Bethany Esfandiari, Coco Kleppinger, Jayme Lingle, Mike Nicholas and Rachel Rosenbloom, with music by BJ Allman and foley sound effects by Corwin Evans.
Thanks to the amazing work of sound-recording genius Michael Cooper, cARTel is able to offer an audio recording of the entire event, including the reading itself and the introduction and post-script speeches of event producer Dan Halden and artistic director Negin Singh.
We're offering these recordings on a pay what you can basis. Your donation will help make future events like this possible, so click below to donate through Paypal. Thanks!
